New Ministry Direction!
The Lord has always led us throughout our time in Zambia, and it’s been quite the journey! And even now, as we start a new chapter in our lives and ministry, our prayer is for wisdom and the Lord’s guidance.
No, we’re not leaving Zambia but rather just the opposite; we’re digging in deeper! After one year of waiting, our application for residency was finally approved! This is such a critical permit for us because it means that we can finally settle down in Zambia without having to constantly renew our immigration status, as we’ve been doing throughout the last 23 years. But what’s even more exciting is that as residents, we can now buy and own land in Zambia. This has opened an incredible opportunity to take our work to the next level and establish a permanent presence in this amazing country!
As our team grows and we continue to expand our work at Hope Zambia, one of our long-standing goals has been to acquire land to build a ministry base. This will provide a permanent location to call home as we establish our footing in the Eastern Province. From this base, we’ll teach our Zambian disciples, train college interns who are considering a career in missions, record our radio show for an audience of up to one million listeners, host short and long-term missions teams, and the list goes on! But our desire goes beyond just sustaining the status quo. We’re striving to achieve more and create space for our continued growth. We’re laying the groundwork to have a lasting impact on future generations as we empower believers and demonstrate God’s love throughout both the Eastern Province of Zambia and the continental United States. The future of Hope Zambia will run parallel with Hope Bible Baptist Church of Chipata, and Lord willing, we’ll also be looking to help establish property for this ministry in the coming days.
That said, we’re thrilled to announce that the startup of our Hope Zambia ministry base is underway! Thanks to the Lord’s gracious provision, we have just enough to buy land and are excited about the potential of what’s to come! Pray for us as we trust that God will provide what we need for the next step in our journey. We need funding to accomplish three vital tasks. First, we need to secure the property with a fence to ensure that everything is safe as the work progresses. Second, we need to put up a small storage building to secure our supplies and keep them safe from weather or theft. Lastly, we need to drill a well, providing a sustainable source of water for our daily needs. We approach this project from a position of strength, having decades of experience and knowledge from lives lived in Africa. But we have only reached this far through the Lord’s mercy and your support. Thank you for sharing our vision of reaching sub-Saharan Africa with the Gospel of Jesus Christ!
A Little Letter From Lisa:
While teaching school to one of my kids, I was trying to lead them to figure out the meaning of a longer word in an economics paragraph without short-cutting the process by simply telling them the definition. “Take off the suffix,” I encouraged. “What is the root word of profitable?” “Profit,” was their frustrated reply. “What does profit mean?” I asked. My students sighed and waved their hands while shrugging, “An Old Testament man who spoke for God!” They weren’t wrong, but I definitely understood why they couldn’t understand the concepts of the paragraph explaining “profitable”! Ha!
Bible School: Training Leaders
In June, we held our first Bible school at Chiyembekezo, and it was a fantastic time! Twenty church leaders camped in the village and studied the scriptures with us for almost 15 hours! We’ve held this event before, but this is the first time we’ve come together since restructuring. Each church leader paid their own way, covering all the expenses for a goat, eight chickens, nshima, and much relish! Because those present were so financially invested, they came eager to learn. All the participation and involvement made this meeting one of the best we’ve ever had! Pray for these believers as they come together again in October, that we might equip and empower these men for His service.
Welcome to Hope Zambia!
We are excited to welcome the Isaiah & Alicen Carr family to Team Hope! It’s great to have like-minded believers on board who share our passion for making disciples in Zambia, Africa, and beyond. Let’s pray for this family as they start fundraising this fall. God is mobilizing a fantastic team at #HopeZambia! Please consider supporting this family as we press forward for the sake of the Gospel.
